Citi Field is in it’s third season replacing Shea Stadium. Citi Field was built in what was a parking lot beyond the centerfield fence at Shea Stadium. The designers of Citi Field tried to incorporate features from classic but long gone parks like Ebbets Field, the Polo Grounds, and Tiger Stadium, and included a 360 degree concourse with views of the field that allows fans to explore the park without losing the view of the field. There are some carryovers from Shea Stadium, the big red apple in center field that comes up every time a Met hits a home run, which is not very often, and the big jets roar over the park after taking off from LaGuardia. Upon entering the stadium a person could be absolutely overwhelmed by the huge video board in centerfield. This stadium also has more advertising signage than any other park I have visited. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised at that after all it is New York. The stadium has orange foul poles which really catch your eye when all other stadiums have yellow foul poles. The out of town scoreboard is at the very top of the stadium in left field simply because there is no room to put it anywhere else. Citi Field is located in Flushing which takes quite awhile to get to from Manhattan but the # 7 train stops right at the entrance to the stadium which is very convenient. The stadium has great acoustics, even with a small Thursday afternoon crowd, when they asked for the crowd to make noise it was fairly loud. It was weather education day and their were hundreds of elementary students from local schools in the crowd. For eats I had a bacon burger which was filling but had to wash it down with the Pbrew which detracted from it’s quality. The game was a contest between two offensively inept teams who really struggle with having to play several unproven players. I expect the next game at Yankee Stadium to be more exciting and interesting as Interleague play gets under way.
