In last year’s inaugural Popeyes Bahamas Bowl, Western Kentucky and Central Michigan put on a show for the ages. Western Kentucky was up 49-14 going into the final quarter of the game, but Central Michigan fought back, scoring 34 points in the fourth quarter alone. In the final play of the game, The Chippewas scored on a Hail Mary, bringing the tally to 49-48. Instead of going to an extra point to tie the game and send it to over time, Central Michigan attempted a two-point conversion but failed to score.
This was easily one of the most exciting bowl games of the entire season last year. And this year, the game is back, and Sports Travel and Tours is the official travel agency for the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl. In fact, we’re the only operator providing travel packages to the game, and if this year’s contest is anything like the last, you won’t want to miss it.
The Game Plan: The location of a Bowl game is a major factor into its success. The Bahamas Bowl is the only bowl game that is played outside of the United States. The game’s unique tropical backdrop is what makes it so special. We will be offering a five-day and four-night package for those who wish to attend the game. The trip begins Dec. 23, and guests will stay at the Melia Nassau Beach Resort, located on the northern part of the island. This beautiful resort is right on the beach and is nothing short of paradise.
lay by Play: The only event scheduled for this trip is the bowl game. This allows guests to enjoy the resort as they wish. The trip is all-inclusive, giving guests unlimited access to Select alcoholic beverages, dining, gratuities and non-motor water sports.
Ring Side: Thomas Robinson Stadium is located in the Queen Elizabeth’s Sports Center in Nassau, Bahamas. Built in 1981, the stadium was named after Thomas Robinson, who was a track and field super star for the Bahamas in multiple Olympic games. The stadium holds 15,023 fans, however, it can be expanded to hold up to 30,000.
Outside the Stadium: Nassau is the capital of the Bahamas and is full of activities. There is something for everyone on this island including:
- John Watling’s Distillery: Known as the “Spirit of the Bahamas,” this famous rum distillery offers tours and tastings of its world famous rum.
- Aquaventure Water Park: This is the premiere water park in the Bahamas. With over 20 swimming areas and 11 pools, this is the perfect destination for family fun.
- Blue Lagoon Island: Another amazing island getaway that Nassau has to offer. Enjoy boat tours of the island, delicious food and drink and even the chance to swim with dolphins.
