For over 90 years, Wembley Stadium in London has been the icon for English football. It has hosted roughly 78 FA Cup Finals, 258 England senior internationals, the 1966 World Cup, 40 League Cup Finals, six European Cup Finals and Euro 96, as well as a variety of concerts and other sporting events.
It wasn’t until 2007, however, that the original stadium was torn down and replaced with the structure we know and love today. With the ability to seat 90,000 spectators, Wembley is the second largest stadium in all of Europe, surpassed only by Camp Nou in Barcelona.
The new stadium, which cost £750 million to build, also features a sliding roof that covers every seat in the venue, making Wembley the largest fully covered stadium in the world.
With all its acclaim, it’s no wonder that the NFL decided to host regular season games at Wembley immediately following its reconstruction. As the International Series games grew increasingly popular with European fans, the NFL responded by adding more games to Wembley’s schedule.
This year, three regular season NFL games are being offered in London, and Sports Travel and Tours has amazing travel packages that are your first-class tickets to each one! The Miami Dolphins will play against the New York Jets on Oct. 4, the Jacksonville Jaguars will take on the Buffalo Bills on Oct. 25 and the Kansas City Chiefs will face the Detroit Lions on Nov. 1.
After you get your tickets—with seats located on the lower-level sideline of the stadium in all of Sports Travel and Tours packages—you may be left daydreaming about your view of the field. Most stadiums feature an interactive map that allows ticketholders to get a general idea of how close they will be to the action, but Wembley’s website goes above and beyond for its football fans. By visiting its interactive map, you can view beautiful photos of exactly what you will be able to see from your seating block, giving you a chance to really get your head in the game!
You can also sign up for a tour of the stadium, which is not included in Sports Travel and Tours packages. The 75-minute tour costs £19 for adults, with discounted rates for children under the age of 16, seniors over 65, students and families.
Travelers are able to access the England “Changing Rooms,” the Press Room and the Players Tunnel. In addition, the guided tour shows travelers Wembley’s impressive historical treasures, including a collection of trophies, such as the Jules Rimet Trophy commemorating England’s World Cup victory and the original flag from London’s 1948 Olympic Games. A replica of the FA Cup is on site for guests to touch and take photos with.
The Wembley tours allow sports fans to relive some of football’s greatest moments while creating memories and taking photographs from some of the best views in the stadium. Guests can also stop by Wembley’s team store for gifts and souvenirs.
In addition to the average tour, guests also have the option of participating in a Mini Tour or a VIP Access-All-Areas Tour; a Mini Tour does not include access to the Changing Rooms, the Press Room or the Players Tunnel. A VIP Access-All Areas Tour, as the name implies, adds on more stops, including the corporate boxes, and offers travelers a Wembley Tour Guidebook and an exclusive gift to take home. Schedule a tour here or call 0800-169-9933.
Wembley Stadium also offers a wide selection of food and refreshments, including beer, soft drinks, hot dogs, fish and chips, sausage, chicken, burgers, pizza and more. Just remember to ask for chips instead of French fries!
